Ball point pen on today's newsprint

In July of 1981, as a young art student studying in Paris, I traveled to London for a long weekend. As it happened, it was the weekend before Prince Charles and Princess Diana were to wed. It's impossible to describe the extent to which every square inch in London was saturated with the royal couple. Their likeness was on store mannequins, every newspaper and souvenir. To me at least, it seemed like over saturation. Ever curious, I had to ask "Do Brits ever feel like it's over the top?"
I think I insulted our bed and breakfast host. "Oh no, that's our future king you're talking about."

Larry, I was at a Rollings Stones concert in Bristol that weekend. I think it's over the top, the royals are, at best, a tourist attraction and as such they barely beat out Euro Disney. I'm the ugly Brit.

Glad to get your perspective Stephen. The guy made me feel like the ugly American. The Rolling Stones. I wish I could have joined you that weekend.

I'm still happy for 'em, though--they seem well suited and happy. You captured Di so well here, Larry.

Of course, I too am happy for the them, as I am for any two in love.
