CEO of The Walt Disney Company Robert Iger, announced yesterday that Disney had purchased Marvel Entertainment Inc for $4 billion, acquiring the rights to Marvel's 5,000 characters including Spider-Man, Iron Man, X-Men, Hulk, Captain America, Fantastic Four and Thor. I'm not really crazy about this news. HOPEFULLY the impact upon the close-minded comic book industry isn't negative. I think there's a possibility that this may prove to be great for the smaller companies and independent creators. I don't expect Warner Brothers (DC) or Disney (Marvel) really break any new ground any time soon. Great title.

Disney has sured up the young girl demographic with High School Musical and Hanna Montana and needs something to sell to the boys. Hopefully they won't take all the darkness out of the comic books.
