Peter Falk

Ball point pen on newsprint

In honor of the great Peter Falk Id like to add "one more thing" you might not have known.

He loved to draw. Back when I was doing a lot of painting at the Art Students League, the rumpled actor would often be spotted lugging his pads in and out of the 57th Street building. He continued drawing to pass the time on movie sets and had many gallery shows of his drawings.

He recounts the story in his book "Just One More Thing" He was acting in a Niel Simon play on Broadway that left him with lots of spare time during the day. By chance he stumbled into the Art Students League, opened a studio door and was transfixed by the female nude model. He said to himself, this is where I'm coming every day. He says his idea of a perfect day is a good breakfast and then spend the rest of the day drawing. I Agree. Some of the most famous American artists taught and studied at The Art Students League. The League is unlike the other art schools in New York in that it's an artist run school that's open to everyone but caters to serious students of painting, drawing and sculpture. After graduating Parsons School of Design I continued to paint at night at the League.
