R.I.P. Steve Jobs

The genius co-founder of Apple Computer passed away yesterday from complications of pancreatic cancer. Together with his high school buddy and just a few thousand dollars in his parent garage, he built the largest company in the US (briefly overtaking Exxon) and changed the way we live. He was 56.

Steve Jobs steps down as CEO of Apple. He knew what we wanted before we knew we couldn’t live without it. That’s what separates smart from genius. Apple has an abundance of smart people but Mr Jobs will be missed.

Apple is the worlds second largest company, so when it’s CEO and co-founder takes a medical leave of absence, markets get nervous. But Apple is in good hands.

The stock market thinks the new iPad will make a lot of money for Apple and AT&T with both companies share prices rising yesterday. What’s still questionable is whether it will add to the bottom line of the struggling newspaper industry. I hope so, but I have my doubts.
