Theme Song?

Ball point pen on today’s newsprint

Donna and I were watching the Republican National Convention last week and we noticed they were playing “I Want You To Want Me” on the convention floor between speeches.  Donna was clever to point out that the song was by Cheap Trick. Ha!
The Democratic National Convention starts tonight. Can Obama secure a victory minus the enthusiasm of 08?
Time will tell, in the meantime, what song will best define this election for Obama? Will it be-
BB King’s  -The Thrill is Gone
or
Billie Holiday’s – Come Rain or Come Shine
or
Jackson 5′s – Give Me One More Chance

or
Louis Armstrong’s – When The Saints Go Marching In
0r
Bob Dylan’s – Paths of Victory

some other?

Notes From Day Tw… uh, One

Ball point pen on today’s newsprint

On day one of the Republican National Convention in Tampa, some of Ron Paul’s delegates walked out in protest, while others wore clothes pins on their noses over decisions to strip delegates from Paul and make rule changes that would make it harder for non-establishment candidates in future elections.

New Jersey’s Governor Christie gave the key note address at 10:40 pm. I’m not going to pretend I saw it. I wanted to stay awake, I really did. If you were awake you’re welcome to tell us how he did.

Here’s a link to the coverage from someone that was payed to stay awake and watch the speech.

Ball point pen on today”s newsprint

Working at home when my kids were small, I listened to hours and hours of children’s programming while I worked, the vast majority of which makes a parent want to pull their hair out. But one always stood above the rest, not two, three, four or even five, just one – Sesame Street is in a class by itself and Count Von Count, well, he’s number one of course.

RIP Big Kahuna

Ball point pen on today’s newsprint

Having just driven up the west coast from Los Angeles to San Francisco along California’s picturesque route 1, the California coast and lifestyle are on my radar. No one personified said lifestyle more than Terry Tracy, the laid-back dude that dropped out of the rat race in the 1950′s, lived in a shack on Malibu beach, surfed, partied and inspired the Gidget books, movies and television show. Tracy was 77.

Paul Ryan

Ball point pen on today’s newsprint

Well, I was away last week so here’s my doodle of Mr. Ryan. Mitt’s 2012 version of  “It’s the economy stupid!”  or at least that was the campaign’s thinking before Mr. Akins stepped center stage with his idiocy, steeling the spotlight from the economy and shining it on his and Ryan’s shared views on social issues. The Romney campaign has done it’s best, behind the scenes, to throw Akins under the bus but has the damage been done? Stay tuned.

Enjoy the show.

Origins

Ball point pen on today’s newsprint

Years ago I volunteered to take part in the National Geographic, Genographic Project. Which basically amounted to me swabbing the inside of my cheek for DNA. From the markers found in my saliva, I learned that my ancestors, as well as yours,  date back some 150,000 years ago to Africa.  Mine then migrated up through, what we now refer to as the Middle East and into central Asia, before heading west to Northern Spain and Ireland.

Fascinating stuff, so this morning my radar caught this story about what scientists have learned of the origins of Native Americans.
