She was the first woman to be an officer of the National Press Club and the first female member and president of the White House Correspondents’ Association. At 89 she probably stuck around for one question too many.

Relations between Israel and Turkey (our two strongest allies in the Middle East) are strained after an Israeli raid on a Gaza bound international aid flotilla.

Mahmoud Abbas’s rise to Prime Minister and then President of Palistine was greeted by the US with hopes for peace in the middle east. A moderate who denounced terrorism, Abbas was willing to concede far more to negotiate peace than his predecessor Arafat. But it must be difficult to negotiate peace while his political rivals in Hamas preach a different course. Did Secretary of State Clinton underestimated said rivals when she stood with Netanyahu last week? Did she create insurmountable political problems for Abbas with Palestinians? Abbas announced yesterday that he will not seek reelection as the Palestinian President.

I have to catch a train this morning for a photo shoot in NY, so today’s sketch is another quickie.

Yesterday Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stoked anti Israeli sentiments and flexed his muscles by firing 9 test missiles, including one capable of striking Israel and US allies in the region… Iran may be testing missiles, but  they’re also testing the will of American’s to follow an unpopular president should the US decide to do anything about it.
