I applaud Chile’s President Sebastian Pinera for rejecting a request by the Catholic Church to pardon imprisoned military personnel that served during Pinochet’s rule. It’s hard to understand why the Catholic Church was championing those responsible for the killing or disappearance of over three thousand people and the torture of tens of thousands, including former President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet.
