DRAWING on OBSERVATIONS

I recall a great draftsman, artist and professor of mine telling of a courtroom reportage gig he once had of a high profile case. He showed up the first day and drew the defendant  dressed in his courtroom best, handsome and polished…. Innocent until proven guilty.

As the facts of the case presented themselves his perception of the defendant changed. and so too did his drawings.

Until, like a sinister twist on the idiom, beauty is in the eye of the beholder,  the drawings became as monstrous and twisted as the defendant’s soul.
