Chinese artist and government critic Ai Weiwei was boarding a plane to Hong Kong to meet about an exhibit when he was detained by Chinese authorities. Police later raided his studio. The detention is the latest in a larger crackdown on writers, artists, bloggers and rights activists that have seen 11 others gone missing.

    This hits close to home, eh? Unfortunately, nobody in the current administration will take China to task for this, or most anything else. Have you heard some of the things Trump has been saying about the Chinese? I wouldn’t speculate on his chances of an election win or even a nomination but his attitude towards China makes sense to me.

    Hmmm.. The Chinese need us as much or more than we need them IMHO. This is a country that is building a technological society almost entirely based on borrowed or stolen intellectual property. I have seen this first hand. The silence from Washington both now and in the past (Bush-43, Clinton, Bush-41) is deafening. I’m tired of it.

    Agreed, but until we get our financial house in order, I would look for more of the same. Everyone knows they are taking advantage, but we cant seem to get that monkey off our backs. At one point, Secretary of State Clinton practically begged the Chinese to keep buying our paper. Maybe they would be doing us a favor if they cut us off and forced us to sink or swim?? At least it would free us from having to bite our tongues…which ironically brings us full circle back to censorship of a different kind.
