Ball point pen on todays news
This is a man’s world, this is a man’s world
But it wouldn’t be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl!
James Brown
Are there more men in the news, or do I gravitate to stories about men? What ever the reason, I realize that I doodle mens faces at a far greater percentage than I do women. Here’s my lame attempt to even the score. Four women on the rise in politics. Sharron Angle, Republican nominee for Senate trying to unseat Majority Leader Harry Reid in Nevada, Carly Fiorina, Republican Senate nominee running strong in California against Barbara Boxer, Nikki Haley, GOP nominee for Governor of South Carolina and Blanche Lincoln, fighting to keep her Arkansas seat in the US Senate in the Democrats column.

Jun 10, 10 at 9:49 amSome times the news, or media in general report women like they’re exotic creatures from Pandora. There’s definitely a sense of otherness. It’s great that you recognized what you were not doing. It took me a long while to realize that I did not draw women, which I find odd now. Drawing women with different body shapes was another breakthrough I had to overcome. Cool post!
I love that song! James went crazy with the screaming towards the end.

Jun 10, 10 at 11:05 amI’ve made a living drawing pretty women, so it’s not that I don’t know how to draw women. But, I have to admit that I feel more comfortable in scribbling a guys face with haphazard lines dotted with word blemishes than I do a woman. I’m wearing my chauvinism on my sleeve, but in this doodle style, it’s hard to make anyone look good. Am I putting women on a pedestal? Treating them like they’re an exotic creatures from Pandora? (good one VEe!) mea culpa, mea culpa. I’ll try harder.

Jun 10, 10 at 12:28 pmFull disclosure: I tend to exoticize women but I don’t post those drawings online because they’re not safe for work or family friendly. My wife knows I’m a deviant.
