45 percent of the population in Haiti are children. Many tens of thousands have lost their parents, homes, and schools.

Two weeks after the quake, humanitarian groups are prioritizing and tending to the most needy, but thousands of children are sleeping on the streets, foraging for food and suffering nightmares.

    It was heartbreaking to hear of the number of newly orphaned children in Haiti. I can’t even imagine the fear, grief, and confusion that these children are feeling but I hope the U.S. can maintain the momentum of the fundraising efforts.

    We Americans have short attention spans. I made a contribution to UNICEF, and they’ve been sending me email updates. The cynic in me knows that it’s a fund raiser, but I do like being kept abreast of the progress after attention wanes.
