Karl Malden

Karl Malden passed away yesterday, Malden was extraordinary at portraying the ordinary man. In 1951 he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor portraying Blanche’s suitor Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire and he was nominated in 1954 for his role as a tough dockside priest in On the Waterfront. Growing up I watched him play Lieutenant Mike Stone opposite Michael Douglas in the television series The Streets Of San Francisco. He was 97.

Hi Larry, I like the drawing of Karl Malden. I just recently showed my film class “On the Waterfront” and enjoyed his performance as the Hoboken priest. I also believe I saw him in “A Streetcar Named Desire” at Lincoln Center in about ’72 (?) with my friend Karen. Also, my dad worked as a longshoreman in Hoboken during the time of filming “On the Waterfront”….early ’50′s… and said he had met Marlon Brando and Karl Malden. Anyhow, Karl Malden:longevity. Pat

I always loved Karl Malden–what a beautiful portrait/tribute to him, Larry! You really captured him here. He was an excellent actor. I was really sad to hear he had died on the way home from work the other day.
