Mark Sanford

Ball point pen on the morning newsprint

Yada yada yada. It may be the cynic in me, but when a public figure reveals a titillating story to the press, I liken it to a magician distracting me with one hand while the other is hiding the real deception. Yes, I feel sorry for his wife and young family, but that’s a private matter between them. I always want to know; Was he being blackmailed? Did he offer anyone a job? Who paid for the trips to Argentina?….Everything else is flash paper.

Or with his impending removal from office, who or what group benefits from his public humiliation. Will some law eventually come into affect or group gain more power and influence 5 to 7 months from now that this governor has been shamed.

I’m a cynic, when the exploits of a politician or celebrity enters a strong news cycle there’s something else going on that will probably be quietly covered small newspapers, blogs and the BBC. Maybe.

It is an interesting question you pose although I am not sure what the misdirection is all about and to what end. Sanford was a strident Obama critic and if I recall correctly he refused stimulus money for his state. At least personally, I guess he didn’t need much extra stimulation. He was getting plenty.
