Ball point pen on newsprint superimposed over engraved invitation

My heart skipped a beat when I saw a big cream colored envelope in the mail containing a very impressive 8.5″ x 11″ engraved invitation requesting the honor of my presence to attend and participate in the Inauguration of Barack H. Obama. I later found that one million commemorative Invitation were printed and mailed to supporters. I’m sorry to report this only invites me to the public events and is not a ticket. Even though I will be watching the speech from my home I’m proud of the work that I did on behalf of our New President and proud of the American people. I plan on framing this invitation (don’t worry, I didn’t draw on it).

    Nice sketch today Dad.

    I fortunately got to see the speech live today when my professor let us leave class early. I quickly ran over to the Student Center where a bunch of students gathered around the screen to watch Obama. A college campus, full of excited young people, is a great place to be today. I won’t forget it.

    I told you that invitation wasn’t exclusive…

    For a brief moment I thought that it was an invitation. I’m grateful that I have a family to remind me that I’m not that special… fortunately, today you don’t need an invitation to feel like a part of something special.

    It makes me smile when I realize how happy and proud you are today. I also had the realization that politics has past on to the next generation. I hope what is left of the old won’t get in the way. Cheney leaving in a wheelchair kind of said it best. Out with the old and in with the new. Here’s to the new!
