Phillies Win

The Wait is over! After waiting twenty eight years between championships, Philly fans were forced to wait a little longer when game 5 of the World Series went into a 50 hour rain delay. The final three innings were played last night, the Phillies coming out on top 4-3 to take the series 4 games to 1. It marks the second World Championship in the team’s 125 year history.
Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels went 4-0, with a 1.80 ERA in post season and was awarded the MVP of both the National League Championship and the World Series.

What To Expect

Ball point pen on the morning newsprint

Most concede that Senator Barack Obama has run one of the smartest, well run campaigns in the history of our nation. If you believe the polls, he will be the next President of the United States. So, what can we expect from an Obama administration? Most believe he will deliver the cool, thoughtful approach that he has demonstrated during this hard fought campaign. He delegates to a very close circle of smart people… No rock stars here. They are loyal, tight lipped and keep their eye on the prize. On the agenda in the first one hundred days will be structuring a plan to bringing troops home from Iraq in a little over a year, develop a far reaching energy plan and provide universal health care coverage.

Vote For Change

The Obama campaign contacted me and asked if I would create a drawing for the campaign. I was honored to contribute this poster aimed at the college student demographic. If you’re a college student (or not) and you print out the previously posted fragments below, trim off the borders, tile them together on your dorm room wall and send a picture to me via email (larry@roibal.net) I’ll give you a shout out and post the pics here on my blog.

Words Matter

An ad agency working on the Obama campaign called me a few weeks ago. They saw my drawings over words and my drawing with words posted here and asked if I would be interested in doing a drawing for a campaign poster. They wanted a portrait of Barack Obama made from a list of issues most important to the Senator written out to form the portrait. I employed this technique once before when I was so frustrated with the media coverage I thought it an appropriate way to show the subtext. But that drawing was done for this blog rather quickly and designed to be seen 6 inches at 72 ppi (pixels per square inch) this would be viewed much larger and needed to be much more detailed. That means many many more words,.. so many in fact, that at 72 ppi, I could only show a small fraction of the drawing here, otherwise it wouldn’t read as words.

Over the next few days I’m going to post the rest of the drawing in fragments. If you’re a college student and you print the fragments out, tile them together on your dorm room wall and send me a picture, I’ll give you a shout out and post the pics here on my blog.
