The lineman is king across the eastern seaboard as Hurricane Irene left millions without power. We lost power for 14.5 hours, returning last night about 6:00 pm. The best tip we received going into the storm was to fill freezer bags with water and put them in the freezer. Once we lost power we moved the frozen bags into the fridge to keep our food from spoiling. It worked like a charm - we even celebrated the power returning with a cold beer. Scrabble update: The competition was fierce with our daughter Alyssa emerging as the hurricane tournament champion, Donna was a very respectable runner-up and I brought up the rear in last place. ...

No parking signs went up in my neighborhood and traffic patterns will be disrupted for the next week as the PGA rolled into town with the Barclays. I live about 800 yards from the site of this years tournament (that's a little less than the combined distance of the first two holes at the Plainfield Country Club.) William McGirt qualified to play on the final day, filling the final spot in the 125 player field.  First prize is $1.3 million with $8 million total prizes awarded. The Barclays is also the first of four tournaments comprising the Fed-Ex Cup, where the champion will win $10 million. Good Luck William.   ...
